Varna Airport kicks off the Summer season strong

With a diverse route network and an increased number of flights, Varna Airport is solidifying its position as a promising aviation hub in the region, offering more opportunities for business and leisure travel

Varna Airport is launching an exceptionally promising summer season with an impressive variety of routes, new airlines, and increased flight frequencies.

The low-cost carrier Wizz Air is introducing an entirely new route between Abu Dhabi (UAE) and Varna, opening the door to the rapidly growing Middle Eastern market. Additionally, the airline is basing a second aircraft in Varna and resuming flights to Frankfurt Hahn, Nuremberg (Germany), and Tel Aviv (Israel) from April 14.

Starting April 29, Wizz Air will also operate a twice-weekly year-round route to Leipzig (Germany) - the airport’s first-ever year-round connection with this German city.

This brings Wizz Air’s total number of routes from Varna to 13 destinations, including: London Luton & London Gatwick (UK), Berlin, Dortmund, Memmingen, Hamburg, Frankfurt Hahn, Nuremberg, Leipzig (Germany), Brussels Charleroi (Belgium), Eindhoven (Netherlands), Tel Aviv (Israel), and Abu Dhabi (UAE).

From April 17, national carrier Bulgaria Air will launch a new direct route between Varna and Paris Charles de Gaulle (France), operating twice weekly. Additionally, from mid-April, the airline is increasing domestic flights between Varna and Sofia from 18 to 23 flights per week.

In June, Bulgaria Air will resume flights to Frankfurt (Germany) and Prague (Czech Republic), providing passengers with highly convenient global connections.

Varna Airport continues to expand its regular flight schedule with the following:

  • Transavia France will operate weekly flights between Paris Orly (France) and Varna for the second consecutive year, every Friday from May 9 until the end of October.
  • Volotea will resume flights from Nantes and Lille (France) to Varna starting April 8.
  • Discover Airlines will begin flights from Frankfurt (Germany) on April 12, increasing frequency from 2 to 4 flights per week in May. The airline will also resume its Munich route (3 weekly flights) from April 30.
  • Turkish Airlines is increasing flights to Istanbul (Turkey) from 7 to 11 weekly.
  • Austrian Airlines will operate 10 weekly flights to Vienna (Austria) during the summer season.
  • Air Serbia will resume flights between Belgrade (Serbia) and Varna on June 2, increasing frequency from 3 to 4 flights per week in July.
  • SAS Scandinavian Airlines will launch scheduled flights between Copenhagen (Denmark) and Varna for the first time ever on June 26.
  • Ryanair will resume flights from Vienna (Austria) on March 31 and will add Krakow and Katowice (Poland) to its network in June.

Varna Airport’s charter flight program is expected to see double-digit growth in the German market and a significant increase in other key markets:

  • GermanyOn May 16, the first German charter flights will begin, operated by Electra Airways in partnership with SunExpress. This project will provide direct flights between Burgas and 7 German airports: Cologne, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hanover, Leipzig, Munich, and Stuttgart.
  • The return of SunExpress is very important for the connection of Germany and contributes significantly to the overall increase of the traffic from and to Germany.
  • AustriaSenioren Reisen returns with charter flights from Linz and Salzburg in late April, marking the first flights on this route since 2018.
  • Poland, Czech Republic, and Scandinavian countries – Charter flights from these countries will commence in late May and early June.
  • Switzerland Edelweiss Air will double its flight frequency between Zurich and Varna this summer.
